        After Windows 8 OS, Microsoft has launched advanced version of Windows 8 i.e. Windows 8.1 with many new features. Microsoft launched Windows 8.1 at the Build developer conference in San Francisco few days ago, describing as a polished version of Windows 8. Microsoft has already released Windows 8.1 preview and it is now officially available for free on Microsoft website. It is expected that the full version will be available in the autumn. Once the final version will release, it will be available for free download as Windows 8 update.

Here are new features added to windows 8.1

Start Button


With Windows 8.1, Microsoft brings back the Start button which resides on the bottom-left corner but it is totally different from that in earlier Windows versions.

Lock Screen Window


Windows 8.1 allows you to turn your lock screen window into picture frame by having slideshow of your pictures. These pictures may be stored locally on your system or resides on Microsoft SkyDrive. You can also respond to your Skype call or open the camera quickly without entering the password.

Enhanced Start screen


Windows 8.1 provides greater customization options in Start Screen. It provides more different colors and background photos for the Start Screen with some motion images also. You can use your own background image to set it as Start Screen image.

Better Mouse Support


Devices which does not support touch, Windows 8.1 offers them improved mouse feature where you can hover a mouse in the corner, it brings all the apps page to you or back to previous page.

Tile Sizes


Windows 8 supports only two tile size currently but with new Windows 8.1 you can change the size as per your wish. Like Windows Phone, Windows 8.1 supports variety of tile sizes like new large and new small.

All in One Search 

In previous versions of Windows, rather than selecting an app and then search your files, Bing now offers all in one search where you can search anything from your system hard drive, App, SkyDrive, Web or any other place giving you appropriate answers for your questions. It will also provide results locally if are not connected to the Internet.

SkyDrive 


With improved SkyDrive feature, now you can get your all files that are stored locally on the drive or in the cloud. You can also take the back up of your whole local drive on the SkyDrive like Apple’s iCloud.

PC Settings

With PC Settings, you don’t need to access Control Panel to change normal settings like Display resolution, power options, Windows update, handle SkyDrive, change product key, etc.  You can change all these settings from PC Settings.

Internet Explorer 11


With updated OS comes updated Internet Explorer. New IE11 has better performance, page loads faster than before, can change its appearance and can open as many tabs as you want. Also IE11 has antimalware solution that scan the input before passing it over execution.

50-50 Split Screen


In windows 8 there wasn’t any feature for running multiple apps in split screen. But with Windows 8.1, now you can run two apps simultaneously side by side sharing the same single screen. This helps to carry out multitasking easier than ever. Also you can resize your app’s window size.

Kiosk Mode


With Kiosk mode in Windows 8.1, you can lock any app in your device to prevent people messing around with the app you don’t want them to access.

Camera App


With updated camera app, it now captures a picture before and after you click the capture button so you will not lose the best shot.

NFC Tap-to-Pair Feature


Now with NFC tap-to-pair feature, you can easily connect your Windows 8.1 device with an NFC enabled printer and you are ready to print. You just need to put an NFC card on your printer to enable this feature rather than buying another printer.

WiFi Direct Printing


With WiFi direct feature, you can connect to WiFi direct enabled printers without installing any extra drivers, making direct connection between Windows 8.1 running device and printer.

Broadband Tethering


With broadband tethering feature, you can make your Windows 8.1 device into WiFi access point, letting others to connect to your network and access the Internet.

Miracast wireless display


Miracast wireless display feature allows you to connect your Windows 8.1 device wirelessly with Miracast enabled projector using NFC and Miracast will use WiFi allowing you to operate projector without any cables.
